Known Issues - updated 3/22/2013

Android 2.7.1

  • Some users are reporting missing coupons after upgrade. If you are, please delete the app, re-download it from your app store, and then login with your existing Chinook Book account, and that will fix the problem. If it does not please contact mobileservices@chinookbook.net

iOS 2.7.1

In this release, various bug fixes including:
  • Crashes causing coupons to disappear during upgrades from previous versions.
  • Coupons disappearing due to memory management issues.
  • Crashes at start-up due to memory management issues.

If you had problems with the update please remove your app, re-install and login to your existing account to regain coupon access.

FAQ

I've recycled my coupon unlock code. How do I retrieve my coupons on a new phone? Or, how do I retrieve my coupons if I've deleted the app?

When you enter your unlock code, we add those coupons to your account on our server. That way they'll be safe if you need to reinstall your app, or if you change to a new phone. Here are instructions on how to login to your account: 

  1. On your phone, download the Chinook Book app from the App Store or the Google Play store.
  2. When the app prompts you to create a new account, tap the link that says "Already have an account? Login here." 
  3. Enter original username and password you used to set up your account, then tap Log In.
  4. This will load the coupons from your account on to your new device.

Can more than one phone share the same coupon pack?

Yes. Each year up to three devices can share the same account and access the coupons in that account.

How can I share my account with others in my family?

  1. On your family member's phone, download the Chinook Book app from the App Store or the Google Play store.
  2. When the app prompts you to create a new account, tap the link that says "Already have an account? Login here." 
  3. Enter original email and password you used to set up your account, then tap Log In.
  4. This will share the available coupons from your account on your family member's device.

What coupons are on the mobile app?

The best way to answer this question is to download the Chinook Book app from your phone's app marketplace and create a free account. From there you can tap the Coupons tab to explore all the coupons we have in your area, or Near Me to explore the offers nearest to your location.  

If you're familiar with our printed product, pretty much all the local coupons in the printed Chinook Book are available for the app. Grocery Product and Amtrak coupons are currently not available in mobile form. That’s because there’s no system in place to redeem them. Once the industry figures this out, we’ll add them. 

How do I get the app?

The mobile app is free to download through the Apple's App Store and Google Play

For phones with operating
system 2.2 or higher.		 For phones with operating
iOS 4.3 or higher.

 

The app is currently available for iOS devices running iOS 4.3 or higher, and for Android phones running Android v2.2 or higher.

Sorry, but the Chinook Book app is not available on Windows Mobile devices. 

How do I get mobile coupons?

On the App

Once you have downloaded the app and registered your account, you can purchase a pack of of coupons directly through the app.

To purchase a new pack directly through your app:

  1. Open the app. From the nav bar, tap More, then Add Coupons.
  2. Follow the prompts to purchase a pack.
  3. Watch the Magic Coupon Loader do its thing.

Through school fundraising

School fundraising programs sell both printed Chinook Book and separate Mobile Coupon Packs that include a code for the full library of mobile coupons.

At stores

Many of our retailers and natural grocery stores in your area sell both printed books and mobile packs.

How do I redeem a mobile coupon?

It's fun and easy! Here's a brief video on how it works.

First pull up a preview of the coupon. Look for the blue "Redeem" button. If you see a "Buy" button, that means you don't have a use of that coupon available but could purchase a set of mobile coupons if you'd like. The key to successful redemption is to tell the merchant, usually at checkout, that you have a Chinook Book mobile coupon. Have your phone ready. When the merchant is ready, tap the Redeem button, confirm, and show the merchant the next screen with the animation. It’s important that the merchant sees the animation so your discount can be granted!

Is it possible to add more than one Mobile Coupon Pack?

You can enter as many codes for coupon packs as you want into the app, or buy as many as you want directly though the app. All coupons will be stored together and you'll see your coupons go from '1 use available' to '2 uses available.'  Since the full library of mobile coupons is available for purchase directly on your phone, you can stock up on packs and always have your favorites on hand.

Getting Started

After installing the app you'll be prompted to create an account with Chinook Book. Once your account has been created you are ready to purchase or unlock a pack of coupons. 

To purchase your new pack directly through your app:

  1. Open the app. Tap More, then Add Coupons.
  2. Follow the prompts to purchase a pack.
  3. Watch the Magic Coupon Loader do its thing.

Location Settings

Many of the coolest features of the app utilize your phone’s Location Services. You may need to adjust the Settings on your phone so the app can know your current location.

  • On iOS simply tap the Settings icon on your main screen, and look under Privacy and then Location Services. Make sure Location Services is turned to On and that you have the toggle for Chinook Book turned to On as well.
  • On Android tap your Settings icon, then tap Location Access and make sure that Access to my location is On.

Finding Coupons

There are three great ways to find coupons:

1. Near Me

Use Near Me to find coupons close to your current location or another location you’re interested in. Green pins or circles mean use of the coupon is available; gray pins mean use of the coupon isn’t available to you, but would be if you purchased a coupon pack.

2. Coupons

Use the Coupons tab to browse coupons by category. Filter results by availability or by a radius from your current location.

Note: The Radius function works best if you give the app permission to use Location Services. See Location Settings above for more info.

3. Search

Search from Near Me or Coupons. Start entering a search term for the merchant, address or coupon offer and a list will appear.

Favorites

Marking your coupons as Favorites makes it easy to quickly pull up these coupons when you're in line. Choose a coupon that you're likely to use in the future, then tap the "Favorite" button on the upper right-hand side of the screen. Favorite coupons are labeled with a small red heart, and you can easily access them under the My tab, by tapping "My Favorites".

Tracking Your Savings

Under the My tab, tap Savings. Your total estimated savings is an approximate calculation of the estimated savings from each coupon you've used. When not exact, we tried to place the estimated value at the minimum you likely received for that coupon.

Changing Market

Traveling to another Chinook Book market? Preview Coupons and access Resources for that city. Tap Change Market under the More tab and select the market you're interested in.

How do I uninstall/reinstall on iOS?

  1. Delete the Chinook Book app from your device, by tapping and holding the Chinook Book icon until a little "x" appears. Tap that x.
  2. Launch the App Store. Search for and Install Chinook Book
  3. Run the Chinook Book app. Download the coupon data
  4. Rather than create a new account tap the link to log into your existing account
  5. Enter your original email and password, or tap Forgot Password

How do I uninstall/reinstall on android?

  1. Go to your phone's settings.
  2. Tap on Applications
  3. Tap Manage Applications
  4. Tap the Chinook Book app
  5. Tap uninstall
  6. After the app has been uninstalled download the app from the google play store.
  7. After reinstalling your app, please tap the link that says "Already have an account" and enter your username [*@*.com] and password. This should fix the problem you're seeing.
